tubi_naz - Oct 25, 2009 1:48 am (1.)
video :Get on the Net
The video is simply the whole conclusion about what is iEARN. Why is iEARN,
for whom is iEARN .It simply clears the concept, ideology, importance of online projects, provides a clear phenomena of online collaboration, presents very positive picture of internet use ,not only that it has also conveyed a message to all that how our youth can become a constructive part of the society . Above all my message to all learners
"Good people do good things in challenging circumstances"
This video also proves the theories presented by different educators that we learn more by getting involved practically, by interacting with different people. This video tells us about how much online project base learning can become a useful tool for our young learners, as "The life you live will soon be past, but the things you do will ever last"

Get on the Net
They are inspiring videos. They provide more inspiring and encouraging students to take part in iEARN projects. In fact, they are exhibiting some of iEARN most excellent preceding projects. There is a great enthusiasm among the participants. Through these videos, I have known some aspects of the culture, problems and entertaining games of the involved countries. A similar project can be a central focus for all countries by working on the diverse portions of the main selected theme. Teachers and students invite local experts and meet with the community members to discuss the issues they are working at. They organize field trips. It is a continuation of what they have learned in the classroom. It is connecting all stakeholders and participating in solving the local and international problems. The teachers’ comments and suggestions were startling to pave the way for us to realize rewarding projects.
• These projects demonstrate current ways of study collaboratively.
• They provide enrichment to the curriculum activities based on the students’ skills and knowledge
• They are enhancing the students performance and maximizing their talents and awareness
• They are Calling attention to the intercultural attentiveness when working mutually with interested people around the world
Therefore, let’s work together through the iEARN projects to make a difference in the word by involving our dearest students to learn more and be heroes of their days, community, nation and the universe.

Hi Abdesalam, It is true that" teachers and students invite local experts and meet with the community members to discuss the issues they are working at." That is collaboration. we will likewise do the same.

A very interesting description for the videos. It is important to watch like these videos to learn new things about IEARN and the projects.

Asifa_Sohaib - Oct 26, 2009 3:02 am (3.)
It is a complete and comprehensive guideline for all those who can feel the pain of this planet and want to solve its problems. This video is a true reflection of iEARN's causes and aims. So far what I have understood the main aim of iEARN is not to work for the betterment of a man but work for the humankind. Collaboration of eight countries for achieving two goals is concealing a great lesson of humanity. Before that, we start working on a net project we must know how active it is and then we should decide the prior needs of our area we want to work for. Collaboration should be asked from the areas suffering with the same problem to work more effectively. Try to relate the project with the matters relating to the daily life and also relate it with the different subjects to get more knowledge about it. Discussion sections with the students, suggestions and advices about the topic can make it more easy and uncomplicated. Students can be motivated and guided by showing such type of project-based videos. Counseling with the local experts and authorities can make the project more emotive.

Hi Asifa,
An efficient collaboration among diverse countries will contribute to a meaningful learning environment where both students and teachers will feel at ease and safe. Of course, dear Asifa, being familiar with the needs will, also lighten our tasks and make the projects more successful. I hope we will all work mutually and achieve our desires together with our students.

GILLIAN_DSOUZA - Oct 26, 2009 4:51 am (4.)
The video has definitely added to my awareness as regards the practical steps involving the implementation of the project. The project idea was the initiative of the teachers. The project though based on environmental issues it contained other benefits such as creating awareness among students and teachers of respecting and being aware of other cultures.
The project was also informative. It showed places, people, and the manner in which they view things held important to them. The whole experience of the project from its conception to its implementation was described as a fun experience and so it showed.
Since project based learning is a method of the learner centered approach in teaching I could see for myself how the students were actively involved. The teacher remained as their guide.
After coming to decide and conduct surveys, interviews, excursions and trips the students did not only report their findings but stepped ahead and did something about the issue at hand. It was impressive to see the students raising awareness in their community, schools etc.
The video portrayed the holistic goal of the iEARN that is to foster ‘collaboration to make the world smaller and to bridge the gulfs over oceans and time zones with the click of a mouse and videos the world was brought together.’

Abdesalam_Zouita - Oct 28, 2009 6:07 am (4.2)
Dear Gillian,
You have inspired me by your advocate ideas:"Collaboration to make the world smaller and to bridge the gulfs over oceans and time zones with the click of a mouse and videos the world was brought together."
The globe is a very small village, which is conquered by technology. It suggests being aware not only of ourselves and of others. There is a call for to contribute to a rewarding acculturization.

Anup_Ghosh - Oct 26, 2009 5:19 am (5.)
It is the third wave. Third wave is the wave of technological revolution. Educationalists take the opportunity of spreading information, knowledge and wisdom by taking ICT to classes all over the world. The messages that we see at the end of the video succinctly point out the facts that we are one world with a purpose of achieving something tangible for the sake posterity for which ss should come forward to seize the opportunity of different technological inventions with the help of teachers. Environment is the issue, the pressing one. Hunger, malnutrition is the problems for which developed nations should help those who are in need to do away with these problems.
In this video, recycling issue was dealt with. Preservation of Nature is sine-qua-non for all round development of Man. Ss are wakened to this need of a balance between Man and Nature.

Abdesalam_Zouita - Oct 28, 2009 3:50 am (5.2)
Hello Anup,
True, there should be balance between Man and Nature, but there are too many dichotomies to bring, and Man remains the central focus. There is a need of reconciliation between the north and the south, the person and the self, teacher/ students, Man/ knowledge, Man/ skills, theory and practice.. It is towards the success of bringing all nations together. What do you think?

Anup_Ghosh - Nov 1, 2009 6:33 am (5.2.1)
Yes, we should work together to bring about a balance between Nature and Man.I appreciate your response to the need of reconciliation.

salam to all
This video brings to my mind many helpful idea for preparing my students to on-line collaboration. It gives steps of how to start a project online. The most important step is I should first improve my Ss Internet communication. Use school Assembly to spread the word of iEARN project and get Ss practice reading by reading the instructions of the projects especially children. Here are some steps I have selected from the video I am going to follow for preparing my Ss to the project online.
1. Make a video to break the ice .know each other’s cultures.
2. Bridage the distance between countries. Students use the map of the world to find out the locations of the countries, which share the same project.
3. Choose a project
4. Identify their problems like garbage, recycling.
5. Collecting date
6.Sharing information
7. Taking action e.g. establishing environmental club
8.Tachers share comments and recommendations.
In brief, this video presents an e.g. of schools online’ and the superb outcomes of Ss' sharing projects.
Wish you all the best in completing your projects

It is a great course of action to pursue. I am sure It will result in fruitful learning outcomes.

My question is what you mean by making a video to break the ice. Are you going to make a new one by yourself or are you going to make use of the available ones?
Perhaps, using “the map of the world to find out the locations of the countries, which share the same project” would make the students more familiar with these countries and raise their curiosity to know more, which will make high expectations from the whole projects.

nawal.rash_alnassri - Oct 28, 2009 8:43 am (6.2.1)
Abdesalam@
Thanks for your question. I mean by breaking the ice is that my students are going to make a video to introduce themselves to others.

Hasnaa_Al-hajri - Oct 28, 2009 12:36 am (7.)
Students can do miracles while learning this is what I come up with after
Watching the video "Get on the Net ". I really, find it very interesting and useful. it is great idea of using the Internet as a learning process which join the students and educators together. I have learned a lot from this video, I noticed that teacher played a major part in guiding the students through their collaborating in the net with others.

This can be organized as I recognized in the video as to state the topic precisely then, they have to identify the problem and Collect the Data for their project and for the things that they want to do then they share the information that they know and the exchange from others. The last step is taking the action in order to publish the work later on the net for others to be exchanged.
These are ideas I have got from the video, If you have any questions you are most welcome to do.
Hasnaa

Dear Hasnaa,
Thanks a lot for your inspiring thoughts.
The role of teachers is of paramount importance. I believe that successful, and inspiring teachers who support their students’ achievement. I do believe that the first one to celebrate the success of students is the teacher before the administration, parents or anyone in the whole community.

Hasnaa_Al-hajri - Oct 28, 2009 10:50 am (7.1.1)
Thanks a lot what you add inspire me a lot and widen my mind of an idea of letting the students guide them selves

Kheira_Mezough - Nov 1, 2009 11:17 am (23.)
Hello course-mates,
As usual, I didn't want to read your comments till I viewed the video at last.
Well, I find your ideas quite interesting and inspiring in addition to the good analysis and also interactive discussions, congratulations, so I hope my comment will show no redundancy but will complement your points of view.
In fact, the whole title of the video is attractive "GET ON THE NET AND THERE WE ARE". Moreover, it shows many countries from different spots of the world, so it prepares the viewer both teachers and students to deal with diversity and learn tolerance, and that will build a positive attitude that would be the key to a successful contribution to iEARN.

The video also shows that one can travel all over the world and enjoy the trip when sharing cultures through video conferencing especially because we can reach both rich and poor countries, thanks to the net we can see places we dream of and other places we don't think they have such technology to transmit their life to us.
In brief, the video demonstrate a part from the real life of iEARN.
Regards
