Week 2: iEARN possibilities

Abdesalam_Zouita - Oct 5, 2009 1:14 pm (3.1)
Hi Ghayoor, Rahim and everybody,
Certainly, IEARN projects would be a joining factor that would help stop the act of violence in both Pakistan and Afghanistan frontiers. Teachers have a leading role to initiates and encourage their students to carry out these projects. These students are the leaders of the future who will affect the decision-making in their countries. It is a tortoise-like manner to achieve peace; still it has its undeniable effects. What do you think?

Hi dear,
Thanks. You are certainly right because active and effective role of teacher in spreading quality education that preaches humanism, peace, do a great wonder, and we the victim of present can save our lives and protect the future of our children. We are also thankful to iEARN that has given us a chance to voice such issues.

I totally agree with you Abdesalam. But often at times, I’ve seen people taking the role of a teacher merely as someone responsible for teaching text. Beyond books, teachers don’t take another approach to teach children about decision making, about tolerance, patience etc, especially with the tension between Pakistan and India; we do not encourage our children to think beyond history books. We are a nation that still prefers to live in the past... not wanting to move beyond a conflict a war that happened more than 60 years ago.
Through iEARN I ask all teachers of India and Pakistan to join hands together and try our level best to at least reduce the building tension between these countries, by educating our children and youth..... We need to RISE!

Dear Farah and all,
Here, you are stressing the role of teachers. The teacher used to be the “Know all”. He was just spoon-feeding the students. He used to be the master mind of everything. Now, there is a big change, the teachers delegate some of their power to students who have become active agent of change within and beyond the classroom. The teacher, now, is a facilitator, councilor, advisor, helper, moderator, to name but a few. Therefore, teachers have to assume the roles of effective and successful leaders to implements the appropriate tools to achieve valuable results.

Hi Abdesalam,
During the course you will have a lesson on how to make your students more culturally sensitive. I love your sentence "The Differences that each one would have are just the spices that make the taste mouth-watering." How poetic!
Did this video help you how you might use your student's creative writing in projects other than Machinto?
Warm regards,
Diane

Hi Diane and all,
Definitely, the video has triggered a lot of food for thoughts. These views will ferment by the course of time to yield something tangible late smile.
I will motivate my students to write poetry, prose, and drawing as well to communicate their ideas and feelings. Students will have a choice to select their preferred genre of expressions. They may write poems, short stories, small plays to perform, draw some pictures, compose some songs… More than that, we may create a blog, yahoo Group, or PBwork through which the students can discuss the raised issue.

After viewing the Machinto Project Video, I feel that some of the possibilities or ideas that iEARN opens up for me, is to reflect the culture, values of my country, and exchange it with external world. So my students can create their own stories and they can ask students from different countries to share their thoughts, cultures and concerns with my students. IEARN has a lot of possibilities, but I need the help of my teachers and my course-mates in helping me to achieve my goal.

Dear Sheikha,
We are all here to help, collaborate, and learn from each other. This is a great opportunity that iEARN offers us. We have learned so much from this course and we are still in the second week. What is important is to keep working and cascading what we have learned to have a global community of teachers responsible for their own learning and for their students and colleagues.

I agree with you IEARN is a great opportunity for all of us here and I hope that we all get benefit from it.
