To teach CLT with a focus on communication in real world
I teach English (ESL).Our students need to develop fluency and understand cultures of different countries. Hence, One day in their life may give them a glimpse and an idea of different countries, where they love to roam on a mental plane and immerse themselves in their cultures. Imagination is the only truth by which they can capture reality for which the may feel indebted to computer links.
Personally, I regularly contribute to teach English website.
There is a scope for pedagogical development, primarily because we cannot confine ourselves in a cocoon. Moreover, regular exchanges with other countries empower our ss to think, share and critically look at different problems.

Hello Anup and all,
Knowing about other cultures makes one conscious of one’s culture. It is an opportunity to understand your culture. I have known my country and culture when I have travelled abroad. I have to give cultural presentations and answer scores of questions. I have discovered that my understanding was not that good. Therefore, interacting with other people is a valuable chance to value our environments, culture and ourselves.
Hasnaa_Al-hajri - Oct 12, 2009 9:28 pm (2.)
In our culture and country, we are stuck to what is being written in the course but actually, we can add something but related to the topic or the theme of the units in the course book. Moreover, I have attached a file for the competency and skills of our standards. Really I agree of using projects with students which is a better way of participate with others. I think by taking such projects and participating in the I EARN make me enrich and enhance the amusement of taking ideas and other needed information from other participants and also, projects are the best idea of gaining new things from other colleagues even from students themselves

Dear Hassna and all,
“Academic standards" “means the skills and knowledge base expected of students for a particular subject area at a particular grade level” You contribution is awesome. It deals with the classroom management and some particular measures to be taken by the teacher in the classroom.
What I would like to teach me how to upload a file to the forum? I have checked the site, but I could not figure it out. Could you help, please?
Thanks
Abdesalam

Dear Hassna,
Thanks for the response and the instruction for the attachments.
I am wondering why I have not seen it since the beginning of the course. Can't be blocked by the moderators? Alternatively, is it only today, I was granted this chance to attach files?
Thanks
Abdesalam

Standards are the skills and competences that students need to acquire in each course. Please, for this week, find out what the local, regional or national standards are in your case, and get ready to make them available to your facilitators and classmates. You will share them in more detail in the upcoming project plan.
Then, take some time to reflect on these questions.
1. Does your curriculum require you to teach any specific topics or themes?
In my country, Oman, we are stuck to the courses books that we are provided with from the Ministry of Education. We have
to follow the curriculum in a specific time. However, teachers can add more activities to make their lessons more interesting. In addition the new course books "English for Me" have lots of interesting themes and topics which help the learners to discover the world and be updated.
2. Is there a place where your education standards are listed? If so please share them with us. (e.g. by sharing the URL of a website where they're published, or preparing a brief overview of them
I do not think there is something like that.
3. Have a look at iEARN projects in your subject area. Here is the link to the projects happening now http://media.iearn.org/projects
I have looked at the projects and I am planning to apply "My Country" project in my school this year.
4. How do you think your classroom pedagogy can be enhanced through the culture of iEARN and participation in an iEARN project?
I think when students or learners have something new they will enjoy and this will enhance their abilities to learn more. So applying such projects will facilitate teaching and learning.

Classroom Goals and Objectives
Question 1. Yes, my curriculum requires teachers to teach specific themes. There are three years in secondary school. These themes are sometimes repetitive. Nevertheless, the teacher s can design their own materials and activities to contribute to the richness of the curriculum. Teacher should devise 40% as an add up and enrichment to the program. Question 2. Yes, there are places where the standards are listed. Each of the three level s has its own standards. The following links provide more information about them:
http://www.mate.org.ma/NLSup6GuideBac2.pdf
http://mateagadir.idoo.com/Docs/P.Guidelines%20all%20levels.pdf
Question 3 and 4 , there is a large scope to work with my students integrating iEARN’ projects in my classroom. It would be a plus for my student to improve and intercut effectively, especially they are going to share their products with a global community.

Hello Abdesalam,
In my country, each level has from 6 to 8 units but the maximum to teach is 4-6 within the whole year.
How are the units, you know once a friend from Morocco promised to send me Textbooks but she didn't, I really wonder if we could exchange at least one unit to see how the content is.
Abdesalam_Zouita - Oct 18, 2009 10:14 am (17.2.1)
Thank you for your interest. It is an awesome idea. I have explored your national Website. There are some valuable official documents of the three level of secondary school:
1- At the crossroads
2- Getting Through
3 New Prospects
The official documents use French to introduce the three books. In addition, there are some testing materials for the baccalaureate classes. Moreover, the book’s maps in the website give a board idea about the topics taught in Algeria for all then three levels and streams.
Whereas, in Morocco, there are three different sets of books for the secondary school: Gate Way, Insight into English, and Ticket to English for second baccalaureate. Each 16 academy choose their own books. However, the topics remain the same across all the books. Many textbook designers design books on a competitive manner. Here are some links to have ideas about the Moroccan system of education. Also, there are material ansd official documents to download.

Wow, Abdesalam,
I think you will have no problem to teach in Algeria.
You know, the official documents have been posted on the website by my inspector not by the ministry, just to facilitate the work for teachers all over the country.
I am pleased that you found them, they are numerous, I really wonder how long it took you to view them.
You know, I often surfed on the first link, and thank you a lot for the rest.

Classroom Goals and Objectives in Algeria
1. Does your curriculum require you to teach any specific topics or themes?
Yes, in my country we are required to teach specific topics that deal with global issues that I like and since we use the Competency Based Approach, I feel at ease because both teachers and learners are autonomous.
To have an idea on all the topics dealt with in Algerian Secondary Education, you can visit the following link: http://www.unitplans.webs.com/
2. Is there a place where your education standards are listed? If so please share them with us. (e.g. by sharing the URL of a website where they're published, or
In Algeria, a teacher is supposed to have some personal documents he designs and maintain, complete some other documents for the school and keep some official documents that the Ministry of National Education generally provide either in printed or digital version burnt on CD ROMs that are distributed to schools every year according to the updated documents in each subject area.
3. Have a look at iEARN projects in your subject area. Here is the link to the projects happening now http://media.iearn.org/projects
This year I am using the iEARN Project Book that I have received by mail, and I have already engaged my students in many iEARN projects respectively to the topics we are dealing with.
The projects are: My Name, Holiday Cards, Music in the World, Folk Tales, Food for Thought, Costumes, Bullying and some other projects.
4. How do you think your classroom pedagogy can be enhanced through the culture of iEARN and participation in an iEARN project?
As my students have never been introduced to the project based pedagogy, I am first following the steps I had learnt in the Teacher Professional Development Courses in which I was involved. Once my students realize their project works and reach the presentation phase, I will introduce them to the world of iEARN, it is really a new experience for them and I want them to enjoy such a wonderful adventure, this is why I will do it on the appropriate time.
I invite my colleagues to read my technique of the project work and have a look the science fair project I realized in 2007. (Please be patient till you see the illustrations of real photos in my classes)

Dear All,
The curriculum for teaching Language Arts in my country include specific topic for each level. Teachers have the option to include extra curriculum content or additional materials to their teaching methods.
Our educational standards are listed in hard copies materials distributed to teachers.
My students are not familiar with the iEARN Projects, but I hope to introduce them to one. Two semesters ago, I introduce iEARN Project to my last school but they did not enjoy the benefit because of the lack of technology. I believe that the iEARN project will enhance their skills and create an understanding of cross cultural awareness and respect for diversity. It will also help them through interactive discussion and critical thinking.

Hi Velma,
Could you, please clarify what do you meant by lack of technology have made your school or students enjoy the benefits of the iEARN projects? Is it the idea of your ex-principle or superintended? We do believe that each state has its own standards; could you give an idea about your states standards. I have Google “American standards” I have come across this PDF documents, talking about best practices. http://www.heinemann.com/shared/onlineresources/E00744/sample.pdf

Hello Sheihka and Jokha,
Joining you on: “How do you think your classroom pedagogy can be enhanced through the culture of iEARN and participation in an iEARN project?”
Based on iEARN projects, you can apply and implement any projects in your classroom, no matter what their levels are. What we need is to adapt and adopt the activities to make your students involved. That is to say, the age level is not a big issue. There are various ways to express one’s idea. I suggest that Students in a low level can draw to share their ideas, or can be an activity where they can put together pieces of a meaningful representation tackling your targeted ideas of friendship, pace and harmony.

Setting Classroom Goals and Objectives
Like the other schools in Pakistan, we too follow the National Education Policy.
Yes, according to this policy our curriculum requires us to teach specific topics as well follow the text books published by our respective boards.
The website for The Ministry of Education is as follows:-
www.moe.gov.pk
The website to view the National Education Policy is as follows:-
www.moe.gov.pk/nepr/NEP_2009
I have viewed all the Projects on display, but the project that best suit my subject and curriculum is A day in the life: Digital Diaries
My classroom pedagogy can be enhanced through the culture of iEARN because in this age of advanced technology students will take a keen interest and eagerly participate in any iEARN project that I introduce them to. The iEARN projects will help me to direct my students to a learning environment, where the activities involve their active participation and interaction with peers across the globe.
