Week 7: 2- Assessment

Hasnaa_Al-hajri - Nov 10, 2009 7:02 am (2.)
Assessment is the amazement parts, which makes all the students aware of what they are doing and give the teacher the opportunity to get feedback about his gaudiness and work through the process of his teaching. I totally agree that we must assess Ss in the three steps of assessment, which are introduction, implementation, and conclusion. These steps make them awake and understand what they are doing very well. during my implementation to the project which I'm doing with my students I feel it is necessary to do it as I like the way that it makes students eager to complete and are ready to do anything because they know that there will be some sort of assessment. In the introduction phase, I tried to asses them to make sure that they know what I want them to do and continually. I tried hard not to get them lost because they will not give you what you really need. Continuous assessment is a helpful tool then during the implementation phase. I assess them also to get ideas on the way they are doing the work. then, comes the conclusion where I will assess them to get feedback that they were working correctly and feel confident that everything was going the way that I want and will give me a clue on the results to be avoid next time as we implementing new project.
Really I get lots from this guidelines.
Hasnaa

Dear Hasnaa,
Very nice contribution. Nevertheless, what are the procedures and skills are you adopting and adapting in the three phases of assessments:
1- Beginning
2- Middle
3- End
Which kind of assessment are you driving at?
Abdesalam

velma_seakor - Nov 10, 2009 11:38 am (3.)
Assessment
The assessment guide is very useful. It states clearly the goals and purposes of assessing my students.
It provide the student with all the necessary guides in helping them improve their skills and plan for their project.
Assessing the student gives me the opportunity to understand how well the students are coping with the project.
The processes involved are clear and concise to yield the desirous results.
Velma

Abdesalam_Zouita - Nov 15, 2009 11:29 am (3.6)
Hello Velma,
Would mind reconsidering the questions.
You need to state and limit tangible tools of assessment for each stage to make the achievement of your iEARN project more effective. Therefore, how you would evaluate your students in the coming stages:
1- Beginning stage
2- Implementation stage
3- Concluding stage
Abdesalam

Sem_Buamey - Nov 11, 2009 5:04 am (4.)
Assessment
The assessment guide is very useful. I plan to use these ways in the introduction stage. 1- Report, at this level, i shall look at what they know and what they want to know. As we all know, it is not easy for everyone to show what one doesn't know.
2- Presentation, at this stage, i shall see to what they need to know. This will be done during a brief presentation of their expectation.
In the process of implementation, i shall use the facilitator to guide the students and peer assessment to see how the grouping will perform.
To complete the project, i shall use the student portfolios.
Regards
Sem

Hello Sem,
Very nice.
Could you, please clarify what do you mean by "Use the facilitator" to guide the students?

"A project becomes a mountain when you see the entire job looming before you. If you break it up into smaller, and more reachable goals, then, you'll be much less apt to procrastinate"
So for me this assessment guide has proven to be a great handy tool. It has not only provided me with a bundle of ideas, of how and where to assist our learners, but also provided different links where one can find different practical examples to get better understanding of the provided text. I use to work on authentic as well as ongoing assessment as per the requirement of my task but now I have another type of assessment that is through rubric I found it very much appropriate for assessing different traits of writing involves gradual enhancement through assessment. So," Put on the glasses of Optimism. And you'll see a world of potential"
(Introduction) I can use survey forms to assess them about their likes/ dislikes/ and understanding about project. (Authentic/ traditional). I can prepare a rubric as well.
Implementation: it can be evaluated through rubrics/ different aspects of, authentic/networked project based assessment
(Conclusion) this part can also be dealt under similar aspects but after reflections/feedbacks.

Abdesalam_Zouita - Nov 13, 2009 12:52 pm (5.1)
Hello Tubi,
What king of survey are you using? Could you, please elaborate on this?
What are these similar aspects when concluding your project?
Abdesalam

tubi_naz - Nov 13, 2009 6:57 pm (5.1.1)
yes sure, Survey will be done to motivate students, like ,how many of us celebrate the days/which days are more popular...and so on
As conclusion is the forth come response of implementation so whatever the assessment outcome will come we'll have so after feedback we'll use same assessment tool s to assess once again

nawal.rash_alnassri - Nov 12, 2009 8:57 am (7.)

Assessment is a guide to Being more effective. Assessing my students should really answer these two questions: '“Are we teaching what we think we are teaching?”
“Are students learning what they are supposed to be learning?”
In the introduction: Students are assessed on the understanding of the project. Ss have to fill in a plan sheet on how to plan their stories. This helps to check students understanding on what they are going to do and how they are going to do it.
Implementations: write their stories and in groups they have to tell their stories. This will help students to get peer assessment and mine as well.
completion of the project: There is a school story day when Ss can present their project and get others feedback.
Assessment in the three stages will be as an additional experience for Students on how to assess themselves.
regards

Moosa_Alseyabi - Nov 12, 2009 11:46 am (8.)

The assessment will be on achieving the aims of the project and the development of their literacy.

In the introduction stage, there should be assessment on the understanding of the project and the steps that they should follow by using questions and more explanations. This assessment will be more individual.

In the implementation stage, as the project is collaborative, students will support each other so the assessment will be in pairs or groups to support students' understanding and giving appropriate and specific feedback using observation. For example, students should use past simple tense to report their project.

In the conclusion stage, students should display their project in the class. So, they will be assessed as groups work. They will be given general feedback on their work. They might do presentation to be assessed.
regards,
Moosa Al-Seyabi

Ways to assess students
Hello everyone,
There is a lot of food for thought in the literature presented in the Multimedia Guide to iEARN on Assessment. I understand that assessment is a daily recurrent activity that we have been practicing without being aware of. Even in the kitchen while cooking, we have to taste the food we are cooking or we are trying to cook. However, at school, it is of paramount importance. It helps teachers to know what, how, and why, they are carrying out their teaching practices. Teachers are able to detect the learning needs of their students. They are aiming at to provide a constructive feedback and an adequate monitoring of their classroom.

This assessment should lead to systematic read-through and analysis of the outcome of teaching. It should identify the weaknesses and strengths of teaching and learning to capitalize on them for a better catering of students' needs and suggesting effective ways to achieve them. Assessment is an ongoing process; it can be formal or informal one.

In fact, in implementing my iEARN project, there will be formal and informal evaluation. I will pay attention to the students’ interaction and participation while communicating the skills and knowledge student will learn in participating in the project. At the beginning, I will have a diagnostic test to see what students know about the projects and direct them smoothly in the projects. I have to make a need analysis, which will help me to teach sufficient kills and knowledge they may need in the project. While working on the project, I will check if the students are on the right track, either to move ahead or reinforce certain skills or knowledge. At the end, I need to check their interaction in the forum: how effective it is and how much they have learned. I will use rubrics and adopt Bloomfield’s taxonomy to come up with assessment strategies for my students.

hi Abdesalam like your metaphor so much when we say "Even in the kitchen while cooking, we have to taste the food we are cooking or we are trying to cook."

Kheira_Mezough - Nov 13, 2009 2:16 pm (9.3)
Hello,
I don't think we haven't been aware of "Assessment" but rather a routine that hasn't been developed through time.
Remember what we often say in Arabic about repetition, just the simple act is repetition of an explanation, drilling, and learning by heart.

It is time that has changed so I believe we have to improve our assessment strategies.

What do you think?

Abdesalam_Zouita - Nov 13, 2009 11:11 pm (9.3.1)
Dear Kheira,
Practitioners and thinkers use different techniques to achieve their aim. In ancient times, this division was so clear that some societies reinforced it by assigning diverse roles for each social entity of people. Evaluation is a daily must because through errors and trials, we achieve to do marvelous things. The sparks of a candle would attract a little child, but once s/he touches it, s/he would be afraid to touch it repeatedly because of the pain.

We have been evaluating everything on a daily basis; we have been practitioners throughout our lives. Sometimes, we would be aware of our acts and deeds, but most of the time, we just do it for the sake of satisfying our social, political, educational, psychological, and physical… needs. Here, I would draw your attention to the theory of inventive solving problems. It states that for every problem, there is always a solution that has been proved to be perfect for that problem somewhere and sometimes, we just need to do little research to find it and adapt for our situation.

After all, we need to read and explore the available literature to make our teaching practices more beneficial and to achieve awe-inspiring outcomes.
Is that right?
Abdesalam

I totally agree with you, though I used the word "but" I was leading you do a debate because I know how much we benefit from your narrations.

Dear Kheira,
Thank you so much for your kind compliments.
You questions are inspiring. You make me reflect on my any written posts. It is very nice for many ideas would be generated. That is the importance again of these educational forums. I would be right as far I can come up with enlightenments to my thoughts or figment of the imagination.
Is That right???
Abdesalam

Kheira_Mezough - Nov 14, 2009 8:41 am (9.3.1.1.1.1)
Hi dear,
Please avoid your open question "Is That right??? " it will keep us debating even when the course if over.
Yet you are totally right.
Peer Assessment for teachers is also very beneficial.

Abdesalam_Zouita - Nov 14, 2009 1:55 pm (9.3.1.1.1.1.1)
Dear Kheira and all,

Through debating, a lot of thoughts come across. Each time you raise an issue, too.

This time, you evoked the importance of peer assessment for teachers. In fact, It has quite a numbers of benefits. It is a self-reflection and self-discovery for students. It helps students to be aware of their learning journey requisites.

Therefore, they are equipped with the necessary tools throughout a consensus or a set of assessment criteria to respect while carrying out their project. The role of teacher, here, is work out this consensus, and provide a modeling procedure. Peer assessment entails responsibility for learners to take control of their own learning. Thus, students are highly motivated. Students’ skills and knowledge would be empowered, and their learning needs would be met.

This technique can be used while students are fully involved to realize their project work.

Are there any possibilities to use it in the beginning and end of the project?
Abdesalam

Jokha_Al-shukairi - Nov 12, 2009 9:44 pm (10.)
Educational assessment is the process of documenting, usually in measurable terms, knowledge, skills, attitudes and beliefs. Assessment can focus on the individual learner, the learning community (class, workshop, or other organized group of learners), the institution, or the educational system as a whole. Studies of a theoretical or empirical nature (including case studies, portfolio studies, exploratory, or experimental work) addressing the assessment of learner aptitude and preparation, motivation and learning styles, learning outcomes in achievement and satisfaction in different educational contexts are all welcome, as are studies addressing issues of measurable standards and benchmarks".
It is important to notice that the final purposes and assessment practices in education depends on the theoretical framework of the practitioners and researchers, their assumptions and beliefs about the nature of human mind, the origin of knowledge and the process of learning.

Hello Jokha,
You theoretical ideas are of quite importance. You have done a wonderful job. However, you need to reconsider the questions. Have benefited from the guide? What are the possible ways to assess your students while implementing your projects: in the beginning, middle and end?

Anup_Ghosh - Nov 13, 2009 6:55 am (11.)
First, we should bear in mind that learning is a continuous process. Hence, learning and assessment are integrated to show a link between these two/
Project work illustrates that ss learn through work/project(if they actually do things)So in the introduction stage ss should be assessed what they learn and get to know what they are learning.
Secondly,ss 'construct'their own knowledge by way of doing a collaborative work in line with their pre-learning and while-doing work, thereby gaining information and knowledge through group work across the computer.
Thirdly,ss learn through experiences,in a spiral way. Thus they revist,re-learn and construct. So at the final stage a complete report along with a superviser teacher finally reflects the project they worked on.

Abdesalam_Zouita - Nov 13, 2009 12:34 pm (11.1)
Dear Anup,
It is a great contribution. I have some suggestions and comments. What is between quotes is your own paraphrasing:
• “introduction stage ss should be assessed what they learn and get to know what they are learning.” What do you mean here? It sounds too much to be assessed in the preliminary stages because you are using simple present indicating a habitual action and present continuous indicating the present moment and future. Of course, assessment is non-stop evaluation. However, you have to limit yourself to something restricted as a rubric or checking their background knowledge.
• “Secondly, ss 'construct’ their own knowledge by way of doing a collaborative work in line with their pre-learning and while-doing work, thereby gaining information and knowledge through group work across the computer. “ How are you going to measures this attainable knowledge?
• “Thirdly, ss learn through experiences, in a spiral way. Thus they revist, re-learn and construct. So at the final stage a complete report along with a supervisor teacher finally reflects the project they worked on.” Nice, students are supposed to report about their work. Can you think of other assessment strategies to enhance your testing skills?
What do you think?
Abdesalam

Mayaa_Al-habsi - Nov 13, 2009 8:18 am (12.)
Assessment is a very important tool to show improvement or reflection of any work. I think it is very important that students get feedback about their work to feel that they are in the right way or not. It is important that students to be aware of the assessment tools that the teacher is using. For me, I got good ideas for assessment from IEARN. For example, the importance of assessment for the teacher to know what to do as next step. In addition, "Assessment helps students plan their projects. Class presentations, design reviews, conversations with teachers and group members, and teacher responses to journal and design/idea book entries, all give students valuable feedback to help them plan their next step." For me, At the beginning of my project I need to clarify everything for my students. Then during applying this project, I will let students to evaluate their work and their friend by reading them and I will give feedback. At the end they can give presentations and write journals about this new experience.
For me,

Hello Mayaa,
Great!
Could you, please, elaborate about “I need to clarify everything for my students?” What do you want to clarify and what are the procedures you will adapt?
Reading a loud is a very importance aspect of effective learning. However, don’t you think that it would be time-consuming in such activity (online project work)?

A Good Assessor is a good planner
Hello everybody,
First I care to thank and congratulate course-mates for their constructive reflections, I also care to thank Luisa and Farah for their continuous support and guidance.
Well,
As far as Project Based Learning is concerned, there are great opportunities of being effectively assessed.
As it was said in the guide: “Assessment should be focused on students 'achievements in relation to the goals of a course." And since goals and objectives are planned at the beginning of the course or project work, I believe that a good assessor is a good planner.

Assessment is an ongoing process that promotes some important skills such as " accuracy in observation, critical thinking, constructivist feedback and positive attitude."

So while implementing my project within iEARN, my students will go through three types of assessment all along the three phases of the project.

At the Introduction Phase:
Students will go through a Diagnostic Assessment to identify their strengths weaknesses and needs within the subject matters using a particular type of Graphic Organizers.

At the Implementation Phase:
Learners will go through Formative Assessment, as it is the longest phase they will undergo both peer and self-assessment and this to encourage self-direction, collaboration and cooperation. While doing so, students will monitor their progress and will be aware of their improvement.

At the Completion Phase:
Students will achieve an oral presentation shared between the team members and a report submitted by the whole team. At this phase, Summative Assessment will help the participants decide for their plans and projects.

In the project, two forms will be used to assess the project:

1- An evaluation grid that will be given at the beginning to follow the progress of the project work.

2- A feedback form will be given to the audience on the day of the presentation to assess the whole project; this form will also be submitted as an attached file to de used by the other learners who will get share the project.

Regards from Kheira

These are not open questions
Could you, please, tell us a little bit about your “Teacher Professional Development Course in January 2008? Is it local, national or international? Is there any possibility to take part in it if ever the event is recurrent?
“Project Based Pedagogy” sounds colossal work. Could you be more specific?
Abdesalam

Kheira_Mezough - Nov 15, 2009 12:54 pm (15.1.1.1.1)
Hello dear,
Well:
TPD of January 2008 was about assessment; some teachers from different schools in my city were engaged to work in collaboration under the supervision of our Inspector of National Education.

The Training course was divided into two parts, assessing the learner and assessing teachers’ performance. The second part was presented by the Inspector. In both parts, participants presented concepts video debates then they engaged teachers into interactive tasks.

I will keep your e-mails to forward you further details once I finish my article and my Inspector accepts to submit it. Well to attend a seminar here in Algeria is still difficult for teachers coming from the world, yet if it happens to you to be in my country, you will be our guests and you are more than welcome. Who knows, we might create the association of the online Alumni and then we go further in Collaborative Professional Development Courses.

For the Project Based Learning, I have worked with my students and colleagues on different projects; I guess it is in the website: www.eltalgeria.

Regard
Kheira

Assessment plays a key role in all aspects of life, especially in teaching learning process. It is the only way that shows the true picture of one's efforts, on every end. As during this course, we have been evaluated after every new concept and that helped us to learn more and new ideas. It was an amazing guide clearly presenting the motives and tools of assessment. Through, this a teacher can easily evaluate her students and even her own work and can get the desirous results. When we as a teacher are clear about our aims and goals, it will definitely make our assessment effective and helpful towards students. By assessing our students, we actually promote some of their other skills like their acquired knowledge, critical reading or writing and constructive attitudes.

Implementing my project my students will be assessed in all three ways
at the first phase of introduction:
they will be introduced with the project and for that, I will try different methods to make sure that it is understood by everyone. They must know about the positive and negative aspects of the project and the methods they will use to get familiar with the topic. Parents and other authorities will be involved to get better results.

at the phase of implementation:
for students I think this is the most important and time/effort taking phase. Here they have to interact, collaborate and modify their work with their peers. They have to be more vigilant, focused and co-operative. On my behalf hey will be more demanding so here I should be more well-aware and organized to facilitate them.

at the phase of completion:
students will present an oral presentation with an article(regarding the difficulties and achievements throughout the activity). They will get this report published in school magazine or (if possible)in newspaper.
Regards,
Asifa Sohaib

Sheikha_Al-Ajmi - Nov 14, 2009 10:38 am (18.)
Dear colleagues,
Sorry for being late in submitting my assignment I had a busy week!
The assessment guide provided me with a great help in order to know that I am on the right track. I needed to read the assessment guide to get to know my students' needs whether it is further guidelines or more materials to achieve the objectives of the project.

Most importantly, I think assessment answers some of the crucial questions that we should ask ourselves being iearners. Are our students achieving the objectives of the project? Are they learning what they are supposed to learn? The assessment guide that iEARN provided us with has said it all, we need to know what still needs to be reviewed and what new learning goals need to be introduced. 'Assessment should evaluate how well students’ have mastered old learning goals, as well as help in the planning of new learning goals' as it is mentioned in the multimedia guide of assessment.

Of course, I am going to assess my students in the introduction through providing them with questionnaires and checking their understanding of what they are up to do.
In the implementation phase, I am going to assess them through individual observation to see how far they have achieved of the objectives.

In the completion part of the project, I will assess students' products because they have to finish the project on time and they have to follow the directions in implementing that project, in my case they have to finish a product with some specification. The assessment can be group work assessment or pair work assessment. In addition, another questionnaire will be distributed at the end to check what they have learned through the previous weeks.
Kind Regards,
Sheikha

Abdesalam_Zouita - Nov 15, 2009 12:06 am (18.1)
Dear Sheikha,
Well done
Your assessment in the beginning is what we call knowledge survey. Probably, you would ask design questions about your student’s background knowledge. In this case, you have to call upon all the components that may have to do with project work. It is a good way to capitalize on and provide your students with solid backdrop to accomplish their project.
Is that so?
Abdesalam

hi course-mates,
the Multimedia Guide to iEARN on Assessment is so helpful and interesting. In my project ”One day in the life”, I assess my Ss following these strategies in the three stages which are:
Introduction Stage: identifying where we are and planning which direction want to take by holding a discussion between Ss and T.
Implementation Stage: after Ss finished writing about their day, peer evaluation and teacher evaluation are taken place.
Completion stage: producing a final draft of the Ss writing to present the best Outcomes in the project forum and school.

Abdesalam_Zouita - Nov 15, 2009 11:20 am (19.1)
Dear Siham,
It is good start, I do not think that discussion with students would be enough at the beginning stage; you need to keep a record of reference that will be used late while implementing your projects. I suggest a questionnaire or survey.

In the implementation stage, could be more specific and set a useful tool for assessment and putting your students on the right track?

In the final stage, are you going to collect all the emails in the forum or do you have any other suggestions to be used?
How are you going to know about the best outcome? Would you, please, set an assessment tool for that?
Abdesalam

Senorfe_Fiawoo - Nov 16, 2009 11:09 am (20.)
Assessment helps tears develop more relationships that are complex with their students by providing concrete pieces of work for students and teachers to discuss. Assessment also gives opportunities for formal and informal conversations about the work.
In the introduction phase, students will be asked questions about what they already know. What has already been learned? This will help plan new learning goals.
At the implementation phase, There will be teachers' conferences to help learners assess their progress. There will be computer based questioning and project templates, collaborations, including teams and peer reviews.
At the completion phase, there will be journal entries, follow up questions about the project, classroom debriefing sessions. Teacher responses to book entries, all give students valuable feedback to help them plan their next step. Class presentations also help the students own the project. Thus motivating

Abdesalam_Zouita (Nov 16, 2009 1:18 pm)
Hello Senorfe,
Well, you got it.
Could you, please, clarify this statement: “There will be teachers' conferences". Do you mean you are inviting other teachers to give presentations to your students? Alternatively, there is already a readymade database, which students may refer to, to get more knowledge and skill in implementing their project?

Week 7: 1Assessment of student work

Abdesalam_Zouita - Nov 12, 2009 4:21 pm (3.2)
Dear Tubi,
You have done a good wok.
Your answers were detailed and easy to comprehend.
I like your quote “He is wise who always strives to find a right balance in everything: the right degree, how far, how much, how little, where on the scale the right answers lies."
You are summarizing the real meaning of assessment and the role of teachers in the classroom. What’s more, it can be extended to everyday life. Assessment is the spices of teaching and learning.

Dear all,
Assessment of student work
• * *How will the appropriateness of student work be evaluated?
My evaluation has always been varied in the classroom. Therefore, it will take the form of formative and informative assessment. Through checking their submitted emails, both in form and contents, I will supply positive comments to encourage them and involve reluctant students in the forum.
• ** How will you assess the student work? I will use a rubric that students have to respect so as their emails and contributions would be submitted. I will handle the students’ expectation effectively. Their anxiety to join the forum should be minimized.
• In the introduction stage of the project? I will do my best to show them the benefits they will have in taking part in the projects and encourage them to sign the buddy-contract. I would make emphasis that the project is a continuation to the classroom for those who would like to further improve their skills and knowledge.
• In the implementation of the project? Checking the forum and reading the students contribution to provide helpful comments. Here, I will be using the Socratic method of teaching. I will be asking students a variety of questions to put them the right track of the projects. Students will have the opportunity to talk to their classmates about the projects.
• In conclusion of the project? Students will give short presentations about the projects. Access to the internet will be used to give a better picture about the projects and focus on the importance of this global opportunity. There will be peer-evaluation. Students will comment about their friends’ contribution. Students will talk about achievements.

Dear all,
What is noticed is that the second assignment is a repeat ion of the first one. It could have been better to give another question that would generate more ideas, or would a review of any aspects of iEARN concept.
I would like to comment and provide some feedback for my colleagues, but it seems that I would be duplicating myself. The first question needs some reading and meditating, whereas the second one, I do it because it is one of the requirements.

Hello Abdesalam,
I totally agree with you, It is kind of repeat of the first assignment, but as you see week 7 is over maybe the facilitators would use your suggestion for future participants.

Week 6: 4 Writing in the teacher's forum

Senorfe_Fiawoo - Nov 6, 2009 1:40 pm (13.)
Visiting the Teachers' Forum
There is a lot of information to share. I read about the Free Webinar available to teachers. However when I tried to register for it I realized that it was not free. I read about what projects others are engaged in.

Abdesalam_Zouita - Nov 6, 2009 2:31 pm (13.1)
Hello Senorfe,
I do not think so. You need only to activate your account. Since you are taking this course, then you are automatically registered in the forum.
You can click on this link to get access:

Abdesalam_Zouita - Nov 6, 2009 2:33 pm (14.)
Dear all,
The teacher‘s forum is a resourceful platform for teachers to know each other and be prepared to engage in a fruitful learning environment. It is an extra step to know outstanding educators, who are interested in proving a helping hand. It is making a large scope vertically and horizontally. These teachers may be in your country or elsewhere. They may have been involved in a different course online. They may be interested in the same project.

All the uncertainties and issues related to iEARN projects and learning environments are discussed. There is a lot food for thoughts. By reading messages in the forum, I am sure you will get inspired. There are learning and teaching innovations, methodologies, strategies, and some of the best practices that are dealt with.

Therefore, it is an excellent opportunity to check regularly for answers, clarification, or worries to reflect upon. I was surprised that I know some contributors whom I have met during the international iEARN conference.

The Teachers Forum
Hello everybody,
I find the iEARN teachers forum quite rich, true that it is overwhelming but the variety of topics allows us to feel at ease since we don't fail to find a topic that fits us.
On the other hand there are people who seem to be always available to receive new comers like Lynn.

I personally started using the forum in the summer and I found no problem joining discussion forums, yet I launched 2 new topics and I got no answer except from Dr Gragert about my new , moreover I couldn't come back to my topic.

May be the posts could be at least classified by months as in the blogs system.

Well this is what I think.

Abdesalam_Zouita - Nov 8, 2009 8:58 am (19.1)
Dear Kheira,
I am so pleased to know that you have already explored the learning circles. That is to say will be our role model to supply us with the necessary needed information to implement projects related to LC.
What are your launched topics? They can be the background of fruitful discussion in our forum.

Week 6: 3- Developing PRoject Plan Part 3

Abdesalam_Zouita - Nov 6, 2009 3:21 pm (8.)
Project Plan - Part 3
Productivity of work
•Will your students need to do research for their project.
It depends on the activities. They may need information to boost their writing skills and knowledge. The internet would be of good help. They will also use their background knowledge to construct new knowledge.

•How will they be organized to gather information?
Students have diverse learning styles, and various setting arrangements. Hey may work individually or in groups of four to five students. Some students may be visually oriented; they would be in charge of the aesthetic

•Who will be responsible and in charge?
I will be guiding them throughout the learning stages. I entrust some activities for skilled students and those who show leadership skills in certain activities.
How you will handle the e-mail exchanges, how often, who will be in charge?

Students will be responsible to deliver their own messages through blogging, a collaborative PBwork platform. Alternatively, through using a Yahoo Group where I will be moderating all messages. In addition, there will be an iEARN podium where student will exchange emails with international students. A list-serve is important to keep track of all the messages.

Assessment of student work

How will the appropriateness of student work be evaluated?

How will you assess the student work? I will use a rubric that students have to respect so as their emails and contributions would be submitted.
- in the introduction stage of the project? A rubric
- in the implementation of the project?
- in conclusion of the project?

Conclusion of activity
• When does your participation in the project end.

- May 2010
• How will the students draw their projects to a conclusion.

- Giving presentations
- Sharing their products with the whole school
- Publishing their work in a potential school website
- Collecting all the contribution in a hardcopy
• Action items to consider in this phase

Authenticity
Content validity
Project format presentation

You seem to be participating in a project, right now. How are combining between your course online and this project? Is it demanding?
You plan is excellent. Keep going.

Hello my friend,
Yeah, I’m working in the “a One Day in the Life” project this year. Actually, the whole school is working in the same project which is so enjoyable and demanding as well.
Hopefully, you will see our outcomes very soon
Thanks & Wishing all of us the Best of luck

Kheira_Mezough - Nov 9, 2009 3:05 am (21.)
Better Late than Never
Sorry again,
I am late for some unexpected problems, yet I am committed to share with my colleagues such a unique experience.
Well here is my plan.
Productivity of work

•Will your students need to do research for their project?
Students will conduct a survey about the topic and they will interview adults such as the school staff and the social assistant in addition to psychologists and teachers.

•How will they be organized to gather information?
Right from the beginning of the project, students have joined their groups, and within each group tasks are devised according to members’ competencies once the outline is set .

•Who will be responsible and in charge?
As it is a team work, though there is a group leader, all the members share the responsibility with a team spirit.

•How you will handle the e-mail exchanges, how often, who will be in charge?
• Students will receive a mass e-mail within yahoo group for the planning, instructions and reminder of tasks to achieve.
•A social network will be designed so that students post their work.

Conclusion of activity
• When does your participation end?
May 2010

• How will the students draw their projects to a conclusion?
Students will give oral and digital presentation.

Identify technological and material requirements
•Technological requirements
•Laptops, Data show, connection if available. • Material requirement
•Survey worksheets and posters

Dear and dearest colleagues and moderators,
I have been experiencing a slow connection this week, besides an extra work to get my students on the real truck of the program; I have been exploring every single page to make sure I have not missed any particular points of the project procedures.

It is breathtaking. There is extraordinary large amount of information that iEARN stuff, and coordinators have accumulated about learning circles along these years. I cannot believe it, every question about the process I may adopt gradually with my students is provided in details. It started by registration to saying goodbye covering all the sixth phases of the learning circle projects. I follow all the available links starting by the frequent asked questions. The checklist in each phase is very important reminder. there are countless topics, including: materials, structure cross-classroom, schedules, themes selection, forums, publications, timeline , to name but a few.

In addition, I have download the possible information I may need while working on a learning circle project. Sometimes, I felt that some data is repeated purposefully to make the explorer of the website navigate the pages smoothly. It took me at least three days. I may suggest that there should be some particular focused questions or activities to illicit the main thoughts of the website. This may perhaps help teachers grasp the main targeted notions.

This learning circle guide describe many reimbursements for both student and teachers, which makes the sense of the field of teaching and learning self-motivating. It supplies for wide perspectives to understand differences and similarities for its open cooperative learning environment.

I have learned techniques that I need to use with the students participating in this kind of projects and how to narrow or widen their expectations carefully on the net. There should be a reasonable regular planning for getting connected and submitting emails.
What I liked most is the recurring recommendations to connect the project to our local syllabus.

Hello,
I have been reading the teacher's guide and have confusion. I was thinking about doing the project called Special Places. I cannot see how I can have a learning circle involvement to complete this project. The way I see it, the students will bring a picture of their favorite place. In class, they will describe it and finally post it on the net. How can i include the learning circle into this process?
Thank you
Zehra

Abdesalam_Zouita - Nov 8, 2009 4:01 am (19.1)
Dear Zahra,
If you go back to the description of learning circles, you will understand that it is possible to implement your project of describing a picture as far as they are other 6 to 8 teachers who are sharing the same projects. However, you have to agree which picture to describe. As I see it, there should be a common picture pr topic among these teachers. By the end of the project, the entire student’s production will be published.
Abdesalam

Zehra_Gheewala - Nov 8, 2009 5:24 am (19.1.1)
Dear Abdesalam,
I am confused about the information I need from the other teachers. Are we not supposed to collect different types of information from all the different members of the learning circle? Then this information must come together as a complete project. It is not the purpose of a learning circle to get the same type of information from everyone.
Zehra

Abdesalam_Zouita - Nov 8, 2009 5:51 am (19.1.1.1)
Dear Zahra,
You do not need to collect any information. A moderator would set the teachers in a suitable group. It can be primary school, junior high school, or high school… When you know your group, you need to write an introductory message, later, you need to fill in a survey about your school and students. It could be in online (blog, wiki, yahoo, Google, flicker…), PowerPoint, or word format. You need to share it with the whole group. Then, there is a convenient agenda to go after to implement your project …
I hope this would help. Are there any questions, you would like to know?

Kheira_Mezough - Nov 8, 2009 2:30 pm (21.)
Hello all,
Frankly speaking, the learning circles teachers guide provides us with all the necessary details to develop our project and even inspires us for new projects.
It is so well elaborated that it requires to be read many times. I unconsciously stopped at every single step and recommendation to think how I could link it to my project, as it gave me great ideas to develop my new project idea "Born to be an Artist" that exactly fits the Learning Circles Project.

I like the guide in the sense that it leaves the teacher to decide though it lists steps and recommendations. There is a sort of autonomy in planning.

Learning Circles Teachers Guide prepares us both to join the Learning Circles and develop our project plan.
I really feel the need to read it once more to develop my reflection paper.

Students will be motivated to write about their abilities and how, why they are good at it!

Week 6: Week Tales Project

Abdesalam_Zouita - Nov 7, 2009 7:37 am (12.)
Hello everyone,
Folk tales provide significant cultural aspects that foster understanding not only of oneself, but of the other as well. They supply a precious reflection about our ancestors’ fight and continued existence against the hard days. It was a terrible endeavor in opposition to the evils and the establishment of the good feat. It was an age of oral transmission of skills and knowledge. Our ancestors learned through observation, memorizations, and daily practices. We are so lucky by the advent of technology tools, which should be used effectively to gain more insights from these tales. Globally, Students would share their thoughts about their own civilization.

Therefore, the data is available together the most contemporary efficient tool to pass share this knowledge with the world. Both our digital awareness and skill will be fostered through participating in this project, which is facilitated by a sociable man with whom I have shared special moment in Morocco, Fez, Mekness, and Volubulis.

Hello Abdesalam,
You are right: "It was an age of oral transmission of skills and knowledge. Our ancestors learned through observation, memorization, and daily practices." and this will teach students to deal with problem solving situations and develop their critical thinking with a positive attitude.
These are the goals and objectives of project based learning.

Dear Kheira,
After the age of oral transmission, there is a great change in the transmission of knowledge and skills. The invention of writing, spam of life, much more free time, and the inclination to learn of the contemporary Man, make it possible for students to learn in safe-like setting. What’s more, technology is the most effective means that set the door ajar for more flow of data.
What do you think?

Week 5: Develop Your Lesson Plan- Part 2

Abdesalam_Zouita - Oct 29, 2009 7:04 am (1.1)
Hello Gillian,
It is an awesome contribution. You have lessened my burden. I was on the verge to submit the rest of the lesson plan. I have almost all the details. I have answered all the questions in the template
Before posting I was checking when I realized I have only to submit the introduction.

Abdesalam_Zouita - Oct 29, 2009 6:54 am (2.)
•How will you present this project to your students?
Our national curriculum necessitates that the students should realize a project by the end of each unit. They are quite familiar with projects. Some of my previous students have already done local l online ones. This will make easy to implement iEARN projects in my classroom. I have already started introducing the project to my students and motivating them to take part in this project for its benefits for them.

•How will you tie it into their curricular studies? Projects as I have said are part and parcel of my curriculum. In addition, most of the units are thematically related the to "Write on project". Students will gain a lot of skills and knowledge in carrying out the project.

• How will you get them interested in the topic
It is through constructive feedback and formal and informal evaluation. Their progress should be echoed for their peers.

• What background knowledge do your students bring to the project
-My students have enough computer skills
-They have learned English as a second language for at least two years
-They are aware of projects and the way they are carried out

Hi Abdesalam,
Your students being computer literate must be a plus to you. In my school, a private one there are only two computers and it is difficult for all of them to have access to the computers. The school is not connected to the internet. However, the students are very much excited so after school they go to internet cafes to get themselves acquainted with IEARN projects.

Abdesalam_Zouita - Oct 29, 2009 11:30 am (2.2.1)
Hi Senorfe,

Your students have already a plus in their school; they have a motivated teacher who would like to use the minimum to achieve a lot. Just go ahead, I am sure, you will make a difference in you school and impress your colleagues and community. If you have wireless connection, one single computer/ laptop will be more than enough for reengaging your students effectively in this project.

Hello Abdesalam,
It is almost the same here for the necessity to have a project for each unit. Yet you demonstrate great experience in this field.
I have some questions if you don't mind:
•Do you make your pupils work on a project for each unit or you make a selection?
•According to you, if we were not involved in iEARN, how many projects you believe students should prepare and teachers ran during the school year.
•You said that your students have already been involved in projects similar to iEARN, does it mean all students in your school are involved in such projects, or just the same classes have got a follow up? Thanks in advance

Abdesalam_Zouita - Oct 30, 2009 12:26 pm (2.3.1)
Dear Kheira,
Thank you so much for your pertinent questions:
•Do you make your pupils work on a project for each unit or you make a selection?

Normally, we have to make our students work on a project for each unit. However, many constraints prevent us from doing so. The program is overloaded. The classrooms are too crowded. In addition, it depends on the level of students. The common core classes are motivated and they want to learn a lot. First year are reluctant because of the regional exam they have by the end the academic year; English is excluded in this exam. Second year baccalaureate is English subject is compulsory and students are just interested in knowing easy tactic to get the average.
•According to you, if we were not involved in iEARN, how many projects you believe students should prepare and teachers ran during the school year.

In this case, I would opt for two projects. It is because students set for two-semester exams. Then, they need only to make two to be part of their extra-credits. However, students can contribute in many projects according to the teacher’s guidance, availability, and constructive instructions.
•You said that your students have already been involved in projects similar to iEARN, does it mean all students in your school are involved in such projects, or just the same classes have a follow up?

Neither of them is correct. It is only because of my willingness to make a change in my community. I like my students very much and I always want them to make a difference in their studying career and at school. Each year, I have different groups of students. Additionally, my interested ex-students may join in follow up activities, as facilitators for the new students, despite using new platforms.
Abdesalam

Kheira_Mezough - Oct 30, 2009 1:36 pm (2.3.1.1)
Hello Abdessalam,
Thanks a lot for your answers,
I totally agree with you that if we take the working conditions into consideration, we students cannot realize more than two project works, for me, though we do have to give students a chance to improve their grades as well as their English within the formative assessment, I rather think of the Project work that would encourage students to work in spirit team and engage in problem solving situations that would prepare them for life.

Every year I plan to realize two project works for the whole school years, to organize project workshops at the realization phase and enable them to finalize their works during the winter and spring holidays.
Thanks again for your answers.

Abdesalam_Zouita - Oct 31, 2009 7:21 am (2.3.1.2.1)
Dear Hasnaa,
I totally agree with you. Assigning a project in each unit would too much. However, the kinds of the assigned project are only an expansion of the skills and knowledge the students have acquired during the period devoted to that unit/theme. Therefore, this accumulation is a plus for brilliant students to show their leadership skills and gift. Also, making a project is considered a review for less good students to catch up with the rest of the whole class. Students need to make use of most of the activities to realize their project.
You can read my response to Nadia as well.

It is encouraging to learn that your students do online project.Though our students are computer literate, they do not do online project. But project -based learning is now common in Environmental studies.

Abdesalam_Zouita - Nov 1, 2009 2:28 am (2.5.1)
Hi Anup,
It is a plus for my students. However, this does not mean that all teachers and students are involved. I would say that despite the growth of the computers and laptops use, there are still some teachers who have never touched the key board or thought of getting a PC. I would say I am not exaggerating. Then, you are the one to help your students to get inspired.

Abdesalam_Zouita - Oct 29, 2009 11:13 am (3.2)
Dear Nawal,
Thank you for exciting ideas, You are awe-inspiring. I have the following comments after reading your post:
Your English Club Activities would be of great help. We have a similar one in our school. It is called RRCE (Regional Resource Center of English,) through which we cascade and involve not only the English teachers, but other discipline as well. We have a wall magazine and students are able to borrow reading materials over the week. We are able also to organize study days via this educational alliance.

Sure, we have an attentive and authentic audience for our stories in this iEARN forum. It is also terrific to call upon a village woman to provide extra genuine aspects to your projects. You remind me of my childhood when the family would be sitting around fire, while cooking dinners and listening to flood of stories by all the family members. I learned how stretch my imagination.
Those days were unforgettable. Do you think so?

Abdesalam_Zouita - Oct 29, 2009 12:15 pm (5.1)
Hi Jokha,
It is great, but I am afraid concerning bringing students again to school during their free time, it would be an extra burden for them. Therefore, they will end up by disliking the projects. It would be wise if you effectively integrate the project and the syllabus. The students free time is used to review and assignments of other subjects.
I wish you good luck

Week 5: Body contract

Abdesalam_Zouita - Oct 25, 2009 9:59 am (1.)
Getting the students’ permission is very necessary in the accomplishment of the iEARN projects or any other non-school activities. Teachers need to take certain time to persuade the students to participate. Teachers should have the administration’s approval, the student’s consent, and finally the parent’s permission to get the students’ involved the projects.
Since the beginning of the course, I have initializing and motivating the students to participate in the projects. I have given them links to iEARN’s website to explore the various possibilities the projects provide. Last Saturday, I asked them to make a list of those who are interested in participation by writing their emails and names. To make them more interested I said the number should not exceed 12 participants. In addition, I told them that their participation would not affect their grades. However, those who are willing to take part will benefit a great deal from the projects.
Next, after getting their emails, I will give them “Buddy Contract” to sign. Later, students will be invited to send their introductory emails. These emails will be collected by using a PBwork place. This is get a welcome package ready to submit in time.

Hello, Abdesalam!
I am impressed that you have already initialized the project with your students. I could'nt even discuss it with my principal as we were busy with our mid-term exams. And these days we are all tense as there is a bomb threat in all our schools and colleges, so the school heads are busy beefing up security.

Abdesalam_Zouita - Oct 30, 2009 12:43 pm (1.5.1)
You need just to take risks to talk about the project. Look for a good opportunity; you can talk to your principal while greetings in the morning. I think that would be the suitable moment to engage in a conversation.
Safety is very big issue; I wish you peace and happiness, without peace there would be no project.

Buddy-contract play a major part in collaborating with others. It is the best way of getting permissions and, making all the students following the rules of doing things so that each one will follow the right direction and the teacher will be in peace mode. The idea of the letters is interesting in a way of making each one of the students and their parents in a motive condition where they can encourage their children to learn and enhance their thoughts and be in top of others. Also, it is a good way that the teacher will have the permission to add Ss in order to avoid contract with parents who don't want their children to be enrolled in such site. On the other hand, parents will get all the information about their kid's activities and their success and try to encourage and help them. Moreover, making activities for the students regarding their active work in their projects and other things in the site would be a good way of organizing the collaborative way of success. Contract is a good way of manage the students and the work itself.

Dear Hasnna,
It is true that this buddy-contract provides peace for teachers. It even helps some students get permission from their parents. You some parents would not accept their children using the net, under any circumstance. I once had a reluctant father, but a motivated who was deprived from participating in a project.

Zehra_Gheewala - Nov 1, 2009 10:59 am (25.)
I found the buddy-contract a very interesting document. It was worded very precisely to be clear about the kind of behavior which was considered appropriate and which was not. I also liked the idea of two students feeling responsible for each other’s actions. In a situation like this I can imagine students having discussions on appropriate behavior and coming up with reasonable solutions on their own. That in itself is a life skill they will find very useful.
I think the letter to the parent will also be a useful tool for cooperation and motivation from them.
Zehra

Week 5: Get on the Net

tubi_naz - Oct 25, 2009 1:48 am (1.)
video :Get on the Net
The video is simply the whole conclusion about what is iEARN. Why is iEARN,
for whom is iEARN .It simply clears the concept, ideology, importance of online projects, provides a clear phenomena of online collaboration, presents very positive picture of internet use ,not only that it has also conveyed a message to all that how our youth can become a constructive part of the society . Above all my message to all learners
"Good people do good things in challenging circumstances"
This video also proves the theories presented by different educators that we learn more by getting involved practically, by interacting with different people. This video tells us about how much online project base learning can become a useful tool for our young learners, as "The life you live will soon be past, but the things you do will ever last"

Abdesalam_Zouita - Oct 25, 2009 4:41 am (2.)
Get on the Net
They are inspiring videos. They provide more inspiring and encouraging students to take part in iEARN projects. In fact, they are exhibiting some of iEARN most excellent preceding projects. There is a great enthusiasm among the participants. Through these videos, I have known some aspects of the culture, problems and entertaining games of the involved countries. A similar project can be a central focus for all countries by working on the diverse portions of the main selected theme. Teachers and students invite local experts and meet with the community members to discuss the issues they are working at. They organize field trips. It is a continuation of what they have learned in the classroom. It is connecting all stakeholders and participating in solving the local and international problems. The teachers’ comments and suggestions were startling to pave the way for us to realize rewarding projects.
• These projects demonstrate current ways of study collaboratively.
• They provide enrichment to the curriculum activities based on the students’ skills and knowledge
• They are enhancing the students performance and maximizing their talents and awareness
• They are Calling attention to the intercultural attentiveness when working mutually with interested people around the world
Therefore, let’s work together through the iEARN projects to make a difference in the word by involving our dearest students to learn more and be heroes of their days, community, nation and the universe.

A very interesting description for the videos. It is important to watch like these videos to learn new things about IEARN and the projects.

Asifa_Sohaib - Oct 26, 2009 3:02 am (3.)
It is a complete and comprehensive guideline for all those who can feel the pain of this planet and want to solve its problems. This video is a true reflection of iEARN's causes and aims. So far what I have understood the main aim of iEARN is not to work for the betterment of a man but work for the humankind. Collaboration of eight countries for achieving two goals is concealing a great lesson of humanity. Before that, we start working on a net project we must know how active it is and then we should decide the prior needs of our area we want to work for. Collaboration should be asked from the areas suffering with the same problem to work more effectively. Try to relate the project with the matters relating to the daily life and also relate it with the different subjects to get more knowledge about it. Discussion sections with the students, suggestions and advices about the topic can make it more easy and uncomplicated. Students can be motivated and guided by showing such type of project-based videos. Counseling with the local experts and authorities can make the project more emotive.

Hi Asifa,
An efficient collaboration among diverse countries will contribute to a meaningful learning environment where both students and teachers will feel at ease and safe. Of course, dear Asifa, being familiar with the needs will, also lighten our tasks and make the projects more successful. I hope we will all work mutually and achieve our desires together with our students.

GILLIAN_DSOUZA - Oct 26, 2009 4:51 am (4.)
The video has definitely added to my awareness as regards the practical steps involving the implementation of the project. The project idea was the initiative of the teachers. The project though based on environmental issues it contained other benefits such as creating awareness among students and teachers of respecting and being aware of other cultures.
The project was also informative. It showed places, people, and the manner in which they view things held important to them. The whole experience of the project from its conception to its implementation was described as a fun experience and so it showed.
Since project based learning is a method of the learner centered approach in teaching I could see for myself how the students were actively involved. The teacher remained as their guide.
After coming to decide and conduct surveys, interviews, excursions and trips the students did not only report their findings but stepped ahead and did something about the issue at hand. It was impressive to see the students raising awareness in their community, schools etc.
The video portrayed the holistic goal of the iEARN that is to foster ‘collaboration to make the world smaller and to bridge the gulfs over oceans and time zones with the click of a mouse and videos the world was brought together.’

Abdesalam_Zouita - Oct 28, 2009 6:07 am (4.2)
Dear Gillian,
You have inspired me by your advocate ideas:"Collaboration to make the world smaller and to bridge the gulfs over oceans and time zones with the click of a mouse and videos the world was brought together."
The globe is a very small village, which is conquered by technology. It suggests being aware not only of ourselves and of others. There is a call for to contribute to a rewarding acculturization.

Anup_Ghosh - Oct 26, 2009 5:19 am (5.)
It is the third wave. Third wave is the wave of technological revolution. Educationalists take the opportunity of spreading information, knowledge and wisdom by taking ICT to classes all over the world. The messages that we see at the end of the video succinctly point out the facts that we are one world with a purpose of achieving something tangible for the sake posterity for which ss should come forward to seize the opportunity of different technological inventions with the help of teachers. Environment is the issue, the pressing one. Hunger, malnutrition is the problems for which developed nations should help those who are in need to do away with these problems.
In this video, recycling issue was dealt with. Preservation of Nature is sine-qua-non for all round development of Man. Ss are wakened to this need of a balance between Man and Nature.

Abdesalam_Zouita - Oct 28, 2009 3:50 am (5.2)
Hello Anup,
True, there should be balance between Man and Nature, but there are too many dichotomies to bring, and Man remains the central focus. There is a need of reconciliation between the north and the south, the person and the self, teacher/ students, Man/ knowledge, Man/ skills, theory and practice.. It is towards the success of bringing all nations together. What do you think?

Anup_Ghosh - Nov 1, 2009 6:33 am (5.2.1)
Yes, we should work together to bring about a balance between Nature and Man.I appreciate your response to the need of reconciliation.

salam to all
This video brings to my mind many helpful idea for preparing my students to on-line collaboration. It gives steps of how to start a project online. The most important step is I should first improve my Ss Internet communication. Use school Assembly to spread the word of iEARN project and get Ss practice reading by reading the instructions of the projects especially children. Here are some steps I have selected from the video I am going to follow for preparing my Ss to the project online.
1. Make a video to break the ice .know each other’s cultures.
2. Bridage the distance between countries. Students use the map of the world to find out the locations of the countries, which share the same project.
3. Choose a project
4. Identify their problems like garbage, recycling.
5. Collecting date
6.Sharing information
7. Taking action e.g. establishing environmental club
8.Tachers share comments and recommendations.
In brief, this video presents an e.g. of schools online’ and the superb outcomes of Ss' sharing projects.
Wish you all the best in completing your projects

It is a great course of action to pursue. I am sure It will result in fruitful learning outcomes.

My question is what you mean by making a video to break the ice. Are you going to make a new one by yourself or are you going to make use of the available ones?
Perhaps, using “the map of the world to find out the locations of the countries, which share the same project” would make the students more familiar with these countries and raise their curiosity to know more, which will make high expectations from the whole projects.

nawal.rash_alnassri - Oct 28, 2009 8:43 am (6.2.1)

Hasnaa_Al-hajri - Oct 28, 2009 12:36 am (7.)
Students can do miracles while learning this is what I come up with after
Watching the video "Get on the Net ". I really, find it very interesting and useful. it is great idea of using the Internet as a learning process which join the students and educators together. I have learned a lot from this video, I noticed that teacher played a major part in guiding the students through their collaborating in the net with others.

This can be organized as I recognized in the video as to state the topic precisely then, they have to identify the problem and Collect the Data for their project and for the things that they want to do then they share the information that they know and the exchange from others. The last step is taking the action in order to publish the work later on the net for others to be exchanged.
These are ideas I have got from the video, If you have any questions you are most welcome to do.
Hasnaa

Hello course-mates,
As usual, I didn't want to read your comments till I viewed the video at last.
Well, I find your ideas quite interesting and inspiring in addition to the good analysis and also interactive discussions, congratulations, so I hope my comment will show no redundancy but will complement your points of view.
In fact, the whole title of the video is attractive "GET ON THE NET AND THERE WE ARE". Moreover, it shows many countries from different spots of the world, so it prepares the viewer both teachers and students to deal with diversity and learn tolerance, and that will build a positive attitude that would be the key to a successful contribution to iEARN.

The video also shows that one can travel all over the world and enjoy the trip when sharing cultures through video conferencing especially because we can reach both rich and poor countries, thanks to the net we can see places we dream of and other places we don't think they have such technology to transmit their life to us.
In brief, the video demonstrate a part from the real life of iEARN.

1- Content Area(s): Peace and Conflict resolution: This is not a content area. A content area is the subject of teaching: English, Spanish, Islamic education, social studies, math, science, physics…

2- - “Peace and Conflict Resolution- Movies, video clips and songs” are not curriculum standards

3- - “Acrostic Poems - Songs for Peace - Posters and Digital photos” These are not skills.

4- Physical: Will this project involve physical development and environmental health? Involves movement and the body use to carry out any particular activities, as in sports

5- Cognitive: Will this project have the ability to use one’s knowledge and experience to construct new ones such as being able to be a good information manager (research and analytical skills)
Survey making, interviewing.

1- Content Area(s): Peace and Conflict resolution: This is not a content area. A content area is the subject of teaching: English, Spanish, Islamic education, social studies, math, science, physics…
• I am a teacher of English, so the content area is Certainly English but I thought the issue we deal with in the curriculum.

2- - “Peace and Conflict Resolution- Movies, video clips and songs” are not curriculum standards
• *I didn't mention movies, video clips and songs as curriculum standards, could you please read my plan again?

3- - “Acrostic Poems - Songs for Peace - Posters and Digital photos” These are not skills.
• **Aesthetic to integrate feelings through poems, music and photos

4- Physical: Will this project involve physical development and environmental health? Involves movement and the body use to carry out any particular activities, as in sports
• *** Sorry not necessarily, it says physical development, you know when someone is psychologically healthy, the body is well formed. This is what I mean particularly for bullying. Shall I involve my students in physical activities to defend themselves, or explain to them that though the body strength is important strength in mind is more important. We sometimes are afraid but courageous, while there are some people who show that they are so courageous that they take impossible challenges.

5- Cognitive: Will this project have the ability to use one’s knowledge and experience to construct new ones such as being able to be a good information manager (research and analytical skills)
Survey making, interviewing.
• **** It is not easy to decide about asking particular questions for such a topic.

6- Language: Will this project include written and oral communication skills?
Yes of course. How is that?
• ***** This is just the part 1 of the project plan. Be patient and you will see how, moreover I teach English, so if my students don't write and show extract from their oral skills how are they going to realize their projects.

I agree with you Kheira, most of us here are English teachers, so the content area will definitely be English.
I hope you will enjoy conducting the project with your students.
Regards,
Sheikha.

Thank you Sheikha,
Make sure that my project plan means a lot to me.
I couldn't go in more or further details because we sometimes don't meet all our planning.
Students have always impressed me with their innovations especially because they have a variety of topics.
I always expected the unexpected and predicted the unpredictable; one of the main objectives is to improve my students' English.
What I do believe is "Leading students to learning treasures, gives the teacher untold pleasures."
I don't mean that my project plan shouldn't be seriously completed, on the contrary I find the plan quite interesting, and may be Abdesalam has had a look at the way we plan our lessons and units in Algeria, so I might add it to my unit plan.
Kind Regards

My Country
My Country: culture and society; students all across the country will get to know one another write about their culture and society.
Grade level: 6-8; 11-13
Goals: 1) to collect, share information; to know about geography, history of an area where ss live and disseminate knowledge2) It is particularly important because our country has different cultures and regional verities. Languages are many with many types of dialects

Grade level: 6-8; 11-13: How is this: you do you teach in primary school: Grade 6? High junior: grade 8, then high school grade 11, But I do not know about Grade 13. Can you please identify grade 13?

3) “To gain knowledge, express in English for all to understand”
Could you specify this knowledge?

“Aesthetic: This project integrates a feeling for country and people. Morally ss will be responsible and develop a oneness when they get to know others.”

(Aesthetic is an underlying principle. It is a set of principles, or a view often manifested by outward appearances or style of behavior)

I think age is not the issue, in different countries we have different age criteria, for learners I think
"Every person is important, it doesn't matter whether you play the violin, the flute, the cello, or the drums; you are still the part of the orchestra"

Sheikha_Al-Ajmi - Oct 24, 2009 10:37 am (13.1.1.1)
Hey Tubi, I like the expressions you use each time you reply on your course-mates, they make you sound very wise
Regards,
Sheikha,
All the best with your project.

Hello Abdesalam,
I feel honored by your questions. I mean age group by 11-13. I teach in a Higher Secondary school.
I have in mind the knowledge ss will gain and at the same time, they will be able to write what they learn in English.
As for your comment on 'Aesthetic', i am afraid I do not understand what you mean. Yes, aesthetic is a principle. On deeper kevel what is beautiful in all its aspect is aesthetic. Do you agree?
regards,
anup

Abdesalam_Zouita - Oct 24, 2009 2:00 pm (13.1.3.1)
Hi Anup,
I totally agree with you. As the free dictionary defines it:
Aesthetic is “The study of psychological aspects of beauty, especially with the components thereof as they relate to appearance." I am learning too much from your impressive questions and your friendly manner, which inspires the forum.

Hi Fellows Previously I selected public places for my project but my facilitator advised me to restrict my project work to those projects which are enlisted by iEARN so I have changed my plan and decided to make a project on Special Place. I hope my fellows will help me in my work.

Special Places
Content areas: English language, Computers and Art.
Grade 6: Ages 11-12 years
Teacher Goals: To encourage students to notice and care for their environment.

Student Goals:
 To enhance intrapersonal skills
 To develop descriptive writing skills

Process Learning:
Students will be required either to photograph or to draw a picture of a place special to them. This will encourage appreciation of aesthetics in their environment.
Describing the spot to an unknown audience will encourage them to view it from a different point of view so that they will be able to express it in clear detail. This will enhance their awareness of a varied audience.
Students will consider their environment and will be forced to see the benefits of living in a positive one.
Viewing the world critically can help young learners play a positive role in the improvement of their environment. They will become conscious of the composition of subjects for photography.
Language will be enhanced when they attempt to express their ideas and thoughts for a wider audience.
Since the project is based on a place they consider special the entire expression must be positive as they are the best judges of their own personal preferences. This gives each child an opportunity to succeed and therefore feel positive about themselves.
