Week 5: Body contract

Abdesalam_Zouita - Oct 25, 2009 9:59 am (1.)
Getting the students’ permission is very necessary in the accomplishment of the iEARN projects or any other non-school activities. Teachers need to take certain time to persuade the students to participate. Teachers should have the administration’s approval, the student’s consent, and finally the parent’s permission to get the students’ involved the projects.
Since the beginning of the course, I have initializing and motivating the students to participate in the projects. I have given them links to iEARN’s website to explore the various possibilities the projects provide. Last Saturday, I asked them to make a list of those who are interested in participation by writing their emails and names. To make them more interested I said the number should not exceed 12 participants. In addition, I told them that their participation would not affect their grades. However, those who are willing to take part will benefit a great deal from the projects.
Next, after getting their emails, I will give them “Buddy Contract” to sign. Later, students will be invited to send their introductory emails. These emails will be collected by using a PBwork place. This is get a welcome package ready to submit in time.

yes, you are right It's very important to motivate the parents as well as our young learners as "Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic"

@ Abdesalam@,
Interesting! The technique you used to introduce Ss to the projects. You added importance to the project by putting it in a formal look.
Wish you all the best.
Nawal

Hi Abdesalam
That's a really good initiative that you have taken with your class. I think that's exactly how it is supposed to be that students must show eagerness to participate in the project and also that the teacher guides them to the completion of it. Good Work.
Regards,
Gillian

Hello, Abdesalam!
I am impressed that you have already initialized the project with your students. I could'nt even discuss it with my principal as we were busy with our mid-term exams. And these days we are all tense as there is a bomb threat in all our schools and colleges, so the school heads are busy beefing up security.

Abdesalam_Zouita - Oct 30, 2009 12:43 pm (1.5.1)
You need just to take risks to talk about the project. Look for a good opportunity; you can talk to your principal while greetings in the morning. I think that would be the suitable moment to engage in a conversation.
Safety is very big issue; I wish you peace and happiness, without peace there would be no project.
Salam

Buddy-contract play a major part in collaborating with others. It is the best way of getting permissions and, making all the students following the rules of doing things so that each one will follow the right direction and the teacher will be in peace mode. The idea of the letters is interesting in a way of making each one of the students and their parents in a motive condition where they can encourage their children to learn and enhance their thoughts and be in top of others. Also, it is a good way that the teacher will have the permission to add Ss in order to avoid contract with parents who don't want their children to be enrolled in such site. On the other hand, parents will get all the information about their kid's activities and their success and try to encourage and help them. Moreover, making activities for the students regarding their active work in their projects and other things in the site would be a good way of organizing the collaborative way of success. Contract is a good way of manage the students and the work itself.

Dear Hasnna,
It is true that this buddy-contract provides peace for teachers. It even helps some students get permission from their parents. You some parents would not accept their children using the net, under any circumstance. I once had a reluctant father, but a motivated who was deprived from participating in a project.

thanks a lot I really get this while doing the project with my students

I found the buddy-contract a very interesting document. It was worded very precisely to be clear about the kind of behavior which was considered appropriate and which was not. I also liked the idea of two students feeling responsible for each other’s actions. In a situation like this I can imagine students having discussions on appropriate behavior and coming up with reasonable solutions on their own. That in itself is a life skill they will find very useful.
I think the letter to the parent will also be a useful tool for cooperation and motivation from them.

Dear Zehra,
This will make the students grow to learn great valuable things in their life. Their discussion is part of public openness that will be connected to their everyday life.
